The details here come from the public listing rather than a curated write-up, so treat the category label loosely and check the business's own hours and services before visiting.

Norfolk is in Virginia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Norfolk is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Virginia's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I love the Wave! The staff is extremely kind, the drinks and food are delicious, and I love the music selection! If you want a great dance club on the weekend, this is your place. 10/10!

Service, food, music aside it is so sad to see that one of the only LGBTQ nightclubs in the area is more obsessed with making money than creating a safe space for queer people. There has been a $20 cover charge every time I’ve gone within the last year. I find it morally questionable that they charge so much for the only gay club in the area, but I normally wouldn’t mind paying if it was worth it. It is however never worth it. Walked in a Friday night a few weeks ago at 11 pm. There were maybe 15 people inside along with a drag show, back dance floor was closed. Tried to get our money back because came to dance and drink, they refused but we left anyway because the vibe was so off. It’s disappointing and I know a lot of other people in the community feel that way, seeing as though the building is normally half empty. This place could be so much more but it seems like the owner is more concerned with charging people a premium price for a subpar experience.

Security followed me around, insisting I had a vape. They went off the word of a white patron and when I informed them that I actually didn’t have a vape at all, they continued to tell me that I did. I even offered for them to search and confirm that they had the wrong person. While this was happening, 3 white patrons were standing in front of us, vaping. I asked security why they were not following those patrons if they were simply enforcing rules. They responded that they were only focusing on me - which made no sense. If the rule is no vaping, why are we harping on a customer who clearly isn’t vaping and even offered a search, but ignoring 3 customers actively vaping? I informed the manager of the issue, and pointed to the 3 white patrons vaping. She apologized on behalf of the security, but the damage was done. I was followed and physically touched without my consent simply because a white patron stated a lie. To watch white patrons break the rules as security still insisted I was the problem severely damped my mood. Do not go here if you’re black because it’s dangerous.

Had a fantastic time here for a recent community event. I had the time of my life! This venue has a lot of smart enhancements. Spacious bathrooms, large dance floor, plenty of bars and sexy bartenders, and a fantastic patio area! I even saw pool tables! Music was loud, the crowd was energized, and I felt safe enough to dance the night away among the other members of my community. I'm grateful for this space. Huge improvements since I was in college. Next time someone asks you to go to The Wave, say yes. You won't regret it. (Not a lot of pics from me on this because I was too busy having fun.)
